Composting in the Mountains: Join us for a FREE workshop covering various indoor and outdoor composting systems suitable for use in the mountains. We will review building and maintaining a successful compost and will address how to avoid problems with critters (including bears!). To apply the principles discussed, the workshop will include a demonstration of the process of building an outdoor compost pile as well as a visit to our established indoor worm compost setup. 5:30 to 7 p.m., 230 Norton Drive, Black Hawk.

Gilpin County Arts Association’s 78th Annual Juried Show Opening Reception: The show runs through August 8th. The reception is a family-friendly event and potluck–feel free to bring a dish! 5 to 8 p.m., Washington Hall, 117 Eureka Street, Central City.
