STEAM Club (Kindergarten through second grade): Build imagination, creative thinking, and have fun! Kids are invited to join the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) Club at the Nederland Community Library. There will be a shuttle directly from the elementary school to the library. Pickup is promptly at 5 p.m. We will meet in the community room. This is a no-cost program, but donations for snacks or healthy, individual snack donations are always appreciated to help cover some of our costs. Kindergarten through second grade meet through March 13.

Children’s Storytime: Stories! Song! Movement! Music! Play! Every Friday morning from 10:15 to 11:30 a.m. we hold storytimes for ages 0 to 4 years old. From 10:15 to 10:45 a.m., we read books, sing songs, learn some ASL, and get the wiggles out! From 10:45 to 11:30 a.m., we have free play and get to know other kids, parents and caregivers. Meet at the Nederland Community Library located at 200 Highway 72.

Big Springs Threatened Forest Hike: Easy 1.5-mile winter hike through forest threatened by impending logging – including old growth! Adjacent to Nederland’s Big Springs neighborhood in Boulder County Open Space and Roosevelt National Forest. See for yourself the damage already done to our public forests from controversial “fuel reduction” logging and how more of the same can increase the wildfire threat to our neighborhood, while learning about the latest studies from award-winning science writer (and Big Springs resident) Josh Schlossberg. Nederland Writers: Bring something you are working on to share and get feedback on or join the group to listen in and hone your skills. Area writers gather at Nederland Community Library located at 200 Highway 72 every Monday from 1 to 3 p.m. For more information, visit https://nederland.libcal.com.
The Mountain Meditation Circle: A free and open mindfulness meditation practice and discussion group for experienced meditators meeting at the Gilpin County Public Library every Monday at 6 p.m. If you are interested in attending the group, please schedule a brief introductory phone call before your first meeting by contacting Alisa Witt at wittalisa@gmail.com, or call 847-890-5262 to provide a good time to schedule the introductory call. If you have never meditated before or would like instruction and direct support to develop your practice, Alisa can put you on a waiting list and when a minimum of five people have joined the list, she will announce the free class will begin in 2-3 weeks.
Meditation and Mindfulness: Practice meditation, explore readings, and join discussions in this free program at Nederland Community Library, located at 200 Highway 72. Children’s Storytime: Join us every Wednesday morning for our Children’s Storytime. Most of our children range from 0 to 5 years of age but all children are welcome. Enjoy stories, fingerplays, rhymes, and more. A themed craft will follow every storytime. The previous week’s crafts are available while supplies last. 10 to 11 a.m. at the Gilpin County Public Library located at 15131 Highway 119.
Blind Date with a Book: Nederland Librarians host a ladies’ night event with chocolate fondue, food, and drink specials as well as romance novel recommendations. 5 p.m. at Busey Brews, located at 70 East 1st Street in Nederland.
Nice Talk with Timberline Fire: Talk recruitment and training, history, mitigation, fire prevention and more with Kevin Schneider. 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Very Nice Brewing Company located at 180 Jankowski Drive, Black Hawk.

Raise the Roof Winter Gala: Help raise money to build a roof on the library’s outdoor stage with an enchanting evening of books, wine, and music from Mountain ReVerb. Dave Aldridge “As I see it”: Enjoy a photography exhibit from Dave Aldridge at the Gilpin Public Library starting February 8! Art will be displayed till March 29 in the meeting room during Library hours.

Radon, Wells, and Septic Systems: Homeowners in the mountains will learn about radon, septic systems, and well maintenance. Please join us to learn the importance of testing for Radon, an odorless gas that can cause lung cancer, and how to reduce radon hazard in homes. We will also discuss tips to maintain well and septic systems, to protect environmental and personal health. Homeowners and Realtors will learn important well, septic, and radon information for buying or selling properties in Gilpin County.
