COAL CREEK CANYON - The Coal Creek Canyon Improvement Association opened a new deck during a ribbon cutting ceremony at the CCCIA Hall on Saturday, August 23, 2025.
All proceeds collected will be dedicated to the construction of the CCCIA's new deck and other outdoor improvements, as the last deck was built 30 years ago.
Board President Norma Cassin and Vice President Jeremy Turnmeyer opened the ceremony. Cassin said that this is the 2025 Deck Replacement ceremony, but they still have a way to go.
They also dedicated a new little library. It will be placed outside and will have books to take and books to share. It is a pretty little cabinet in a dirt bucket with concrete below, and will be provided with a camera to be sure no one disturbs it.
The Board had to meet many requirements within Boulder County to ensure that engineering, permits, mitigation, etc., around the deck are up to code and safe, so that everyone can enjoy this space.
Cassin introduced board members for a ceremonial photograph: Suzy Schemel, Secretary and Hall Manager; Chuck Berginc, Treasurer; Janice Batt, Membership Director; Bruce Goodwin, Building & Grounds Manager; Julie Sorlie; and Bruce Tansy.
The Board then went to a door to the deck, where a beautiful ribbon stretched across the door and went outside. Cassin cut the ribbon and Turnmeyer said, “This is due to SRI, which did the construction.”
Refreshments after the ribbon-cutting included cookies and ice cream with a cake emblazoned with the words “Thank You.”
The CCCIA Board meets the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Community Center, 31528 Highway 72. Contact us via email cccia80403@gmail.com to be included on the agenda. You can also reach the organization by phone at 303-642-1540.
