NEDERLAND — The longstanding partnership between Nederland Middle-Senior High School (NMSHS) and the Nederland Lions Club to organize, present, and honor the graduates of Nederland High School with a banquet continued this year on May 13.
Graduates in Nederland's Class of 2026 were honored by their teachers. Academic awards were given and student athletes were recognized. Grad Plus was awarded to 22 students who participated in Work Based Learning, Concurrent College classes, Seal of Biliteracy, received an Industry Certification and/or Seal of Climate Literacy. Cords and hoods were handed out for students to wear during the graduation ceremony. Academic awards were given to 13 students. Nine students were recognized as AP scholars. Seven seniors are in National Honor Society.
The Lions Club gave out monetary door prizes to some lucky graduates as well as gifts to every senior.
Scholarships were awards to students. Currently, the Class of 2026 at Nederland High School has earned just over $1.2 million in scholarships.
Before the celebrating was done for the night NMSHS Principal Caleb Melamed spoke a little bit about each senior and each senior said what they plan to do after graduation. The plans greatly varied from going into a specific line of work, to a university (engineering to theater), to technical schools, and one senior already has her pilot's license and is pursuing aviation.
The evening is attended by the seniors and their families.
