COAL CREEK CANYON - The Coal Creek Canyon store at 30520 Highway 72 currently only sells unleaded gasoline; premium and mid-level gas are not available as of November 16. The store is under new ownership and has changed the name from Kwik Mart to KB Gas and Food.
They sell gas from Sinclair Oil, which has gas stations throughout the United States.
Many messages on Facebook allege that around November 7 and 9, people got bad gas at the store. After filling up, cars and other gasoline-run equipment would not start. Some vehicles had to be towed to mechanics.
One of the new owners, Gourav Kumar, said that they hope to have premium available on Tuesday, November 19. They have sent samples in for testing. Kumar said that hey don’t have a clue as to whether the gas was bad.
The store has also applied for a liquor license for malted beverages and wine. A public hearing will take place at 9 a.m. December 5, 2024, at 100 Jefferson County Parkway, Golden, Hearing Room #1.
The Mountain-Ear will follow up on whether alleged gas problems have been resolved.
