NMSHS presents annual juried art show

Posted

NEDERLAND — Walking into the lower level east hallway of Nederland Middle-Senior High School, my eyes were met with a plethora of colors and a variety of art.

Pottery, photography, 3D arts, drawing, and painting were some of the mediums exhibited at the 14th annual Art at Altitude. This may have been one of the biggest art shows the school has seen, with 360 pieces on display.

Soon the hallway was crowded with students and families admiring the work that the students have been putting their hearts and souls into all year. As art teacher Judie Sievers began the evening presentation, there was standing room only in the school’s library.

Sievers said that “the middle school students were so enthusiastic this year,” and as a result there was more art from the middle school than in previous years.

This is a juried art show. Three community members were asked to judge the show: Katy Able, Ali Kennedy, and Carrie Evans.

The photography was exceptional. The 3D art was creative. The drawings were extremely detailed (it was nearly irresistible to grab and take a lick of an expertly shaded soft serve twist ice cream cone).

Art at Altitude 2026 at Nederland Middle-Senior High School was an undisputable success.

Congratulations to the students for their efforts and dedication to the arts, and to Ms. Sievers, Mr. Wade, and the families for being their guides and instructors.
