ALLENSPARK - Are you ready yet? Have you cleaned the house and are ready for company? How about your gift list? What are you waiting for?
The festive season is upon us, and there are only a few days to finish your shopping. However, if you prefer a good story over shopping, stick around for a holiday bag filled with entertainment. Okay, perhaps a little fun fact to kick off your holiday celebrations:
Did you know the American tradition of Christmas shopping dates back to the 1820s and 1830s? As stores advertised their wares as presents, people began purchasing confections, keepsakes, and gifts for children.
In 1822, Episcopal minister Clement Clarke Moore wrote a narrative Christmas poem for his daughters entitled “An Account of a Visit from St. Nicholas,” known today as “’Twas the Night Before Christmas.”
The poem’s main character was a jolly old elf with a broad face and a little round belly. If this sounds familiar, it’s because it inspired the creation of the Santa Claus we’ve known for generations.
Now that you’re armed with a fun fact to share with your family and friends, take the beautiful trip along the Peak to Peak Highway and head over to the charming rustic town of Allenspark, where The Old Gallery, Tree Huggers Trading Company, and Ferncliff Food & Fuel have everything you need to complete your nice and naughty list.
That’s right, even the naughty ones deserve a gift this time of year. Whether the gift is coal or not, that’s up to you—no one’s judging.
