He was working to ensure that the people of Nederland and the victims of the fire were informed, were being taken care of, and were being well-represented.

What aid can the state provide? Both Neguse and Polis noted that the shopping center fire, despite eliminating 30% of the town's sales tax revenue, would most likely not fit the definition of a "major disaster," and therefor businesses may not be eligible for certain loans from the Small Business Association. The state representatives assured the crowd that there were programs available to help these local businesses, including from the Office of Economic Development and International Trade.

Addressing NederlandMayor Billy Giblin, before introducing Neguse and Polis, shared a short message, stating: "we just want to thank the many agencies and responders who came to support our town and help us through this terrible tragedy."

Addressing Nederland (continued)"It's going to be challenging," Polis said, referring to stores recouping their losses and attempting to reopen. "For instance, these stores have lost the inventory they had, and we want to make it as easy as possible for them to recover."
