NHS hosts alpine meet on Friday

It’s time to get out the cowbells.

The Nederland High School Alpine Ski Team is hosting a Colorado High School Athletics Association Ski meet this Friday at Eldora Mountain Resort.

The first meet of the season, scheduled for last Friday, January 5, 2018 was postponed, so the EMR meet will be the team’s first competition of the season. It is a large team with over 50 skiers ready to point their tips downhill. At least 10 of them are from Nederland, ready to claim fame for the Panthers.

This is Jonathan Damon’s second year of coaching after a successful season last year, and many of the athletes are returning.

It is always inspiring to have spectators lining the slopes as the skiers wind through the gates, to hear the cheers as they head into the finish.

Practice has been taking place at EMR for the past month as snowmakers covered the Chute run and the team is anxious to smack the gates in the giant slalom course.
