Panthers fall in fourth

Barbara Lawlor, Nederland.  On Thursday, December 14, 2017, the Nederland High School Panthers hosted the Bellevue Christian Bruins who fought their way to the lead in the fourth quarter, 30-23.


Nederland hit the floor with energy and accuracy, taking an 8-5 lead. Karen Sorokach scored six points and the Panthers were making it happen.


The score see-sawed in the second quarter, with Sorokach finding the basket and Sydney Nation also punching one in.


The first half ended with the Bruins finding a three-pointer and surging ahead 14-12. It was anybody’s game and the intensity continued through the third quarter as Breegan McClish found her stride, for a few points. Sorokach made a last second shot and the game was tied at 20 going into the final period.


Bellevue moved ahead by three. Helen Cross hit a field goal and a free throw and tied the game at 23. The Bruins grabbed a three-pointer and four free throws to end the game.


The Panthers played hard and kept their energy to the end of the game.
