Eagles win last game of year

Barbara Lawlor, Gilpin County.  In a dramatic overtime game last Saturday, December 16, 2017, the Gilpin High School Eagles beat the Lake County Panthers 56-52 giving them a win on their record, 1-4.

 

This game came after a loss on Thursday night to the Rocky Mountain Eagles, 41-59.

 

The Eagles trailed the first three quarters and outscored Rocky Mountain in the fourth quarter, but not by enough to catch up. Will Lorenz had an outstanding game, coming up with 25 points, with six three-pointers.

Stephen King: 1 three pointer, 1 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal

 

 

Saturday’s overtime win was a great holiday gift for the Eagle boys. The Gilpin boys were behind by one point at halftime, 22-23, caught up in the third quarter and then each team scored 12 points, tying at 47. The overtime pressure was on. The Eagles pushed forward, scored four points and won the game.

 

Will Lorenz, honing his three-point skills, sunk seven free throws. Their next game will be on January 5.
