Panthers begin season, 1-1

Barbara Lawlor, Nederland.  They are a team of small numbers, but they are tall, athletic and eager to put Nederland High School back on the basketball map. A dozen boys will suit up this year and about half of them will be looking to the veteran players to help them earn a winning season.
Jarod Rasdall is the only returning senior and has been the outside shooter, racking up most of the three-pointers. Juniors Rain Larrabee, Taylor Hoffman, Damon Vigil and Toby Kane will be a force to reckon with on defense. They have been dedicated players who will lead the younger and less experienced players.

Last weekend, the boys made their season debut at the Deer Trail tournament. On Friday, they won their first game of the season, downing the Bethune Bobcats, 42-27.

The Panthers came out fast and strong, taking a 15-4 lead in the first quarter, followed by a 12-6 lead in the second quarter. The second half was slower for the Panthers, but they never gave the Bobcats a chance to catch up.

Rain Larrabee, with 16 points and 9 rebounds was named the Player of the Game.
