Ned girls take first at regionals

Barbara Lawlor, Nederland.  The Nederland High School girls’ cross-country team has been reaching for their personal bests since the beginning of the season and the hard work paid off at the regional competition in Lyons last Thursday, October 19, 2017.

The 5,000 meter course began in the flat meadows behind the high school and then headed up into the hills before it meandered down and onto the Lyons High School football field and track.

As spectators gathered at the finish line, eager to see who would enter the field first, Nederland fans let out a cheer, as Panther sophomore Helen Cross crossed the finish line. Three places behind her was senior Sarah Davidson. Adding to the Panther points was freshman Elyria Kitsch who came in 16th.

For the boys’ team Adam Figgins came in 25th and Hakan Chunton has continued to come up with his personal bests, boding well for Ned’s long distance running future.

There were 72 runners in the boys’ field. Heritage Christian, Lyons and Clear Creek were the first, second and third place winners.
