Frank Lutz passed away on September 14, 2017 in Boulder, Colorado.
Frank and his wife, Susan, were active in the Nederland scene for over 50 years. In the early days, they spent summers and holidays here, and during those trips began building their mountain home overlooking the divide. After retirement, Frank and Susan became full-time Nederland residents.
Frank served many local organizations. He was very active in securing funds to start the first Nederland Area Seniors’ meal site. As a member of Nederland Community Presbyterian Church, Frank served as an Elder and often preached on Sundays when the pastor was away. Rotary International was also a passion of Frank’s, especially the Rotary Youth Exchange Program that brought students from around the world to live and study in Nederland.
Frank received his doctorate from Washington University, St. Louis. As a professor of education, he taught at New York University and Penn State, and retired from Texas A&M. He was a prolific writer and authored several books and many articles on education policy.
Frank and Susan have two sons, Paul of St. Louis, Missouri, and Andrew of Del Mar, California.
To celebrate Frank’s life, a memorial service was held at Nederland Community Presbyterian Church on Saturday, October 7, 2017.
