Judith Lee Anderson, 77, of Nederland, CO, died peacefully August 9, 2017 at Boulder Community Hospital. Judy was born on March 28, 1940 in Greenlawn, Long Island, New York to Ethel (Brush) and Edgar Schulz. She was a 1958 graduate of Huntington High School, Huntington, Long Island, NY and a 1962 graduate of Potsdam State University in Potsdam, NY with a degree in education. On July 7, 1962, she married John E. Anderson in Greenlawn, Long Island, NY. They moved repeatedly between the Washington DC area and Ankara, Turkey with John’s service in the United States Army before retiring to Nederland, CO in 1989.
Judy was a math teacher in Virginia prior to becoming an Education Advisor while living in Turkey. After returning to Virginia, she returned to her role of Education Advisor. She left her career to become a mother and home-maker.
Judy enjoyed her years of raising their two children and was involved as a classroom assistant, Sunday School teacher, Boy Scout and Girl Scout Troop Leader. After moving to Nederland, Judy continued to be extremely active in volunteer work as a co-chairperson of the Nederland Food Bank. She was a highly dedicated, long-time member of the Nederland Community Presbyterian Church, including serving as both an Elder and Deacon, and was involved with Christian Women for Service. She further volunteered with IGNITE Adaptive Sports, performing administrative work for the teaching of disabled skiers at Eldora Ski Area. Judy was honored for her extensive community service as a Nederland Community Champion in 2004. She also enjoyed hiking, skiing, traveling, sewing and reading. Judy was a tireless and wonderful caretaker of her children, granddaughters and everyone else around her. In the past few years, Judy most loved her time with family. She was well loved and will be greatly missed by her family and community of friends.
Surviving are her husband John Anderson of Nederland, her son Jim Anderson, his wife Alicia and their daughter Mia of Chicago, IL and her daughter Lee Brennan, her husband Steve and their daughters Molly and Katie of Black Hawk, CO. She is further survived by her brother Jeffrey Schulz and his wife Betty of San Antonio, TX, brother-in-law David Anderson and his wife Maureen of Albuquerque, NM and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service was held at the Nederland Community Presbyterian Church.
