GMS Eagles have the numbers

Barbara Lawlor, Gilpin County.  Gilpin Middle School football coach Pete Morgan says this year’s team is probably the largest in Eagle history, with 28 players on the roster including four girls.

The young team will make its debut at home on Thursday, Aug. 31, against the Lyons Lions. Chris Keller is also a new coach who will lead the middle school Eagles in a seven-game season. Most of the players are new to the game with the exception of seven eighth graders from the last couple of years.

“Our school is growing, enthusiasm is high,” says coach Morgan. “Football is at a high in America. Never have more kids been playing football, there has never been more in the weight room. It’s exciting.”
