Eagle netters begin season

Barbara Lawlor, Gilpin County.  The Gilpin High School volleyball team takes to the court this week when they participate in a tournament at Kremlin against West Grand, Cedaredge and Sanford on Sept. 1 and Sept. 2. With five returning seniors, the girls will start out with a lot of experience and a lot of younger players, with two juniors and six sophomores. They will have to wait until next year for the freshman to begin moving up into varsity level play.

The younger girls are eager to begin the season and coach Alexis Donaldson has a lot to work with as the older girls slide into their leadership roles.

“I am extremely excited for this season,” says Donaldson.” The girls have been working hard and have a lot of spirit and enthusiasm. We play in a very strong, competitive volleyball league and I am looking forward to seeing how we match up.”
