Panthers enter soccer season

Barbara Lawlor, Nederland.  On Friday, March 16, 2017, the Nederland Panther girls’ soccer team hosted the Grand Valley Cardinals on the Panther home field at Pleasant View in Boulder. The Nederland Middle Senior High School fields are still in the process of melting and being prepared for play.

Boulder was sunny and warm, the winter grass was dry. The Panthers fielded enough girls to play the game but substitutions were not available. Grand Valley, 2-0, beat the Ned girls 5-0, all of the points being made in the first half.

It was evident from the beginning of the game to the end, that the Panthers were getting their soccer muscles back.

The Sorokach sisters Alex and Karen, coming off the basketball season, were on the ball, anticipating attack and moving in to protect the goal.

Linnaea Thibedeau, also a basketball player, is in prime shape to be the goal keeper, but she didn’t get much of a break against the Cardinal offense who spent much of the game taking shots.
