By the end of the first quarter of Gilpin High School’s Homecoming Game against the Belleview Christian Bruins on Friday night, September 23, 2016, the Eagles were ahead 44-6. By the end of the game, Gilpin was up 64-12.

It was Belleview’s first game after rounding up enough players to make a team; some of them have never played football before. It is to their credit that they stuck in the game that was giving the Eagle’s younger players a chance on the field.

Jack Ball made good use of his time in the game scoring three touchdowns. Daniel Jewell showed the fans he could kick the ball. Freshman Mateo Maldonado was where he needed to be to come up with the tackles, and Manny Gomez also had a great defensive effort.

The team worked together and everybody had a chance to be part of the win.

Players of the Game vs. Belleview Christian: Manny Gomez was named the Overall Player of the Game; Braedyn Perez was the Offensive Player of the Game and Mateo Maldonado was the Defensive Player of the Game.

The next home game will be against Soroco, beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 1st.
