Paul Carrill, Nederland. Beginning June 14, and using existing approved Police Department staffing levels and operating budget, the Nederland Police Department created the new position/assignment of “Detective.”
NPD Officer Darragh O’Nuallain has been assigned to the position of Detective. The new investigative assignment was created to more timely address the investigative needs of the Nederland Police Department and to better serve the needs of local crime victims.
The investigative program will also be responsible for: General Investigations, Restorative Justice Coordinator, Community Oriented Policing Coordinator and NPD Training Coordinator. Staffing and shift assignments have been adjusted, so the community will not notice a difference in response times or the presence of uniformed police officers in the Town.
Since, the NPD has never had a formal investigative assignment or program, the NPD has partnered with local Boulder County Law Enforcement Agencies to learn and immediately implement regional investigative protocols and best practices. Over the next several weeks, Detective O’Nuallain and Sergeant Larry Johns will be attending training meetings with the following Boulder County Investigations Units: Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Gilpin County Sheriff’s Office, Boulder Police Department, Longmont Police Department, Louisville Police Department, Boulder County District Attorney’s Office, Boulder County Medical Examiners Officer and the Boulder County Drug Task Force.
The Nederland Police Department wishes to thank the regional law enforcement community and the citizens of Nederland for their support in this new chapter of community service of the Nederland Police Department.
