Nordic skiers have one more meet

nordic skiBarbara Lawlor, Nederland.  Last Saturday, the Nederland High School Nordic Ski Team competed in a Duathlon at Cordillera,  hosted by Eagle Valley High School. Each racer participated in a 3K Classic and 3K Skate event. It is a more grueling event than usual and a great way to prepare for the upcoming state championship.

The Nederland girls’ team, which consisted of Sarah Davidson, came in 12th out of 12 teams with 91skiers vying for position.  Davidson placed 21 in the Classic Race with a time of 11:30. She placed 19th in the Skate Race with a time of 10:16 and came in 20th place overall. She qualified for state in both events.

The Nederland boys team came in 10th of 13 teams with 116 racers.

In the mens’ 3K Skate race, Nederland came in 10th of 13 teams with 113 racers. Skiers who place 50 and under qualified for state. Both Bryce Nichols and Kiernan McClish crossed the finish line at the same time, coming in 50th with a time of 9:44.

The State Championship will be on Thursday, February 25 and Friday, February 26, at Aspen High School. There will be a Classic Individual Start on Thursday and a Freestyle Mass Start on Friday.
