Alpine boys, girls take second

nhs ski 338 hannah goodBarbara Lawlor, Eldora.   It was a home team advantage day for the Nederland High School alpine ski team. The slalom course was fast last Friday but the Ned kids knew the bumps and ruts and ice strips. They skied well enough to take second place for both the boys and girls, but a large Evergreen team bumped the Panthers out of first place.

Sunshine, deep blue sky and packed snow made for a great day for both the skiers and spectators as the racers whipped through the gates, using their speed and elbows to slam the poles to the ground.
The first three finishers from each team scored points. Nederland had a total of 169 points and Evergreen had 175. Skiers in the 19th place and under qualified for state.
