William Allen Stone, III, known to all of his friends simply as “Stone” died from cancer. He is survived by his three children, April Michele Stone, Rosemary Stone-Dougherty and Skyler James Stone, four grandchildren, Mallerie Dougherty, Alexander Dougherty, Ashley Dougherty and Meadow Dougherty, and his sister, Becky Gantner of Golden, CO and brother, Craig Stone of Colorado Springs, CO.
Born July 4, 1944 to William Allen Stone and Wanda Goforth in Middletown, Ohio, he considered Colorado his true home. He grew up in Wheat Ridge and lived the past two decades in Nederland and Lafayatte areas. Stone went to Colorado State University, where he followed his passion for music. He managed many bands during college before settling down.
He was unpretentious and non-materialistic. He loved music, the outdoors, and had a green thumb. He enjoyed socializing and could strike up a conversation with almost anyone and make them feel he had known them for years. He was well liked and considered acquaintances as friends. He enjoyed road trips, concerts and theme parks, especially with his family.
He never tired of the country or mountains. His passion for motorcycles, especially Harley Davidsons, was well noted throughout his life and bike tours.
He had a full life with many adventures and careers, including racing, adventure tour guide and horse wangler. He loved the mountains and said he never felt more free, alive and at peace than when living in a cabin in the beautiful Rocky Mountains. He loved his dog, affectionately known as “Imp,” which was short for “Impulse,” which sums up how he pursued all of his life passions. He is a true free spirit and will be missed and live on in our hearts and memories.
