Barbara Lawlor, Nederland.  The newly polished gym floor reflects the stream of volleyball players that prance across the court, stretching their thigh muscles. The big black Panther snarls above them, pushing them to move faster, harder. The Nederland High School Volleyball Team has just finished a summer camp led by coach Shelby Nation and energy is high.

With 21 players and a new coach who worked with the girls this summer, there is a motivated feel to practice at the beginning of the week.

Returning seniors are seasoned veterans and will be the leaders: Jessica Gloe, Katie Jewell, Addie Jacoby, Tobiah Nagle and Hannah Woods. New to the program this year is Nicole Silva.

There are a bunch of incoming freshmen that are being welcomed to the program, ready to learn and play.

“Coach Brian Gioia  has been with us throughout the summer and we are glad that he has joined our team,” says Coach Nation. “Brian and I are very excited about the hard work that the girls have put forth over the summer and through the first week of practices. The seniors have stepped up to take leadership over the team and the freshmen are just as eager to learn! Can’t wait for competition to start.”

The first home game of the season will take place on Tuesday, Sept.1 against Union Colony at 5/6 and then on Friday for the Gilpin Tournament Nederland will play Soroco at 11:15 and Shining Mountain at 4:15.
