Pet Gadgets

With the ability to control so much though a Smartphone application, we’re seeing many new ‘Pet Gadgets’ entering the marketplace.  According to the American Pet Products Association, annual spending on pets has more than tripled over the past two decades rolling in at around $55.5 billion in 2013.  This number includes food, veterinary care and medicine, and Pet Gadgets.

Pet gadgets vary in what they offer, with some offering a gadget you attach to your pets collar while others sit quietly on a shelf.  The Whistle Activity Monitor records your pet’s activity, how long they are active and at what intensity level with up-to-the moment information available through an app on your Smartphone.  Tagg is a wearable pet gadget offering GPS tracking to help recover your pet should they become lost; and Dropcam is a microphone and speaker system where you can speak to and hear your pet through a mobile application on your Smartphone.

Pet Gadgets can help keep your pet engaged while you’re away, especially if they have separation anxiety which can lead to destructive boredom.  Some app’s even provide your friends the ability to entertain and communicate with your pet through Facebook and Petcubes!

As the industry takes off and matures offering more and more pet gadget products, we’ll be able to engage our pets while we’re away, monitor their activities, and more easily find them should they become lost.  We will have the ability to monitor our pet’s biometric information helping us to understand our pet’s levels of exercise and then we can modify our pet’s exercise routine to enhance their health and longevity.

So while you’re monitoring your heart rate and overall health levels through your Smartphone applications; you can also monitor Fido’s heart rate and overall health levels helping both you and them stay healthy and happy; and note differences in the data collected for early disease prevention.
