Sport Shooting Management Partnership Forms

Garry Sanfaçon, RSS Project Coordinator
Boulder

Recently Boulder, Clear Creek, Gilpin and Larimer counties formalized a partnership with the Colorado Parks and Wildlife and the United States Forest Service to develop a landscape-level, multi-jurisdictional strategy for Recreational Sport Shooting (RSS) across northern Colorado’s Front Range.

Recreational Sports Shooting RSS

The Northern Colorado Front Range Sports Shooting Management Partnership was formed to work across jurisdictional boundaries to provide safe, responsible and accessible recreational sport shooting opportunities while addressing conflicts near residential areas and with other recreation users. The strategy is not a decision document but a planning tool for agencies to use in the future when making decisions about RSS opportunities and potential restrictions. Decisions will be made after the strategy is in place and will follow the environmental and decision-making review process for each agency.
The Partnership will look for opportunities to bring its resources together and be strategic about how and where to provide RSS opportunities. While the RSS Strategy is being developed agencies may still take management action to address RSS issues such as providing new RSS opportunities as well as restrictions for safety when needed.
Informational open houses will be held in each county in the coming weeks to update the public and share preliminary criteria to identify potential opportunities for developed shooting areas in each county. Below is the schedule of open houses.
Larimer County: June 27, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Carter Lake & Boyd Lake Meeting Rooms, Larimer County Courthouse Office Building, 200 W. Oak Street, Ft. Collins.
