This Week’s Weather
By John McGinley
The first five days of March didn’t look too promising for snow, but another disturbance out of the northwest outperformed expectations by dropping 4-5 inches of snow around the area on Monday. The disturbance wasn’t especially cold with highs only dropping into the 30s after a week of days mostly in the 40s. Coldest days were in the mid teens. The air had a decidedly spring-like feel to it all week. Winds were active with 5 days over 40mph. This past week we saw the last two days of February so we can compute the statistics for the month. The heavy snow of the last week of February drove totals way above normal with 33 inches of snow. This was over twice normal. The snow melted out to 1.72 inches…a nice addition to the soil moisture. The average high temperature was 30F and the average low was 15F, making the month 2.5 degrees colder than normal. We had 13 windy days with 3 days over 60mph…..windier than normal.
