Request for public inspection of ballots
On Sept. 29, 2011, the Colorado Court of Appeals held that voted ballots are public records subject to inspection under the Colorado Open Records Act (CORA) unless there are marks that identify the voter who cast a specific ballot.
The Gilpin County Clerk and Recorder Colleen Stewart has announced that she has received a CORA request from a group called Coloradans for Voting Integrity. Representatives of Coloradans for Voting Integrity will be reviewing the ballots at the Gilpin County Courthouse on Dec. 12, 2011, at 9 a.m.
Stewart stated that the ballots being reviewed will not be connected to a specific voter in any way. “I will work to assure that each Gilpin County voter can exercise their right to vote with confidence in the secrecy of their individual votes.” she said.
The inspection process is open to the public. For more information call the Clerk’s office at 303-582-5321.
