A one-stop shop place – Barbara Lawlor – Nederland
You don’t need anything at the Holiday Mountain Market. You will survive if you don’t give in to desire, but boy, you will sure want a lot of what the annual arts and crafts event, sponsored by the Nederland Area Seniors, has to offer.
The cool part of this shopping venue is that you give while you get. Every time you purchase something from a local artist or craftsperson or health and beauty creator of lotions and potions and soaps and candles, you are helping one of us to make it through the winter. Many of the people running booths depend on this seasonal chance to offer their wares and stock their own cupboards.
This year’s market will be held at the Nederland Community Center. The food, the music, the non-profit agencies, the students’ booths and a jolly old red-suited guy with a white beard will line up, eager to show you what they have and ask what you want.
You also will find something you never thought you would ever want, but you know someone who would love it. It is the joy of discovery without the frustration. It is a time to stroll and savor the moment.
Santa will show up from noon to 3 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday and photos will be available to send to the grandparents. The music performances are almost non-stop and long after you’ve depleted your shopping budget, you will continue to hang out, soaking in the holiday atmosphere.
Just being there is free, but bring the bucks, just in case.
